This jam is now over. It ran from 2022-05-31 22:00:00 to 2022-10-31 23:00:00. View results

Note: The deadline for submitting your game has been extended with two months.

We are happy to invite Amiga game developers from around the world to develop some new games for the Amiga using Blitz Basic or AmiBlitz.

The idea behind this jam is to grow the community and increase knowledge and awareness around Amiga and the use of Blitz Basic and AmiBlitz to create games. This means that all submitted games must include the source code so that beginner developers will have examples to study and learn from.

Join us no matter your skill level - this game jam is a perfect opportunity to create your very first game, or a side project to your other development activities or a chance to create that game you've been carrying inside you for decades and always wanted to do! Three months of development time should be enough time to produce a playable game, even if you are completely new to Blitz Basic!

Use the #AmigaBlitzBasicGameJam hashtag on Twitter to share your progress and to see what the others are creating.

Join our Discord server for a bit of banter, on topic discussions, coding assistance or just to hang out and maybe share your development progress.

The submitted game must be developed using either Blitz Basic or AmiBlitz. The complete source code and all necessary files required to compile and play the game must be made available together with the submitted game. Submitted games without source code will be automatically disqualified.
  • Submitted entries must run on a classic Amiga Model with AmigaOS. Expanded Amiga Models are allowed (Extra memory and up to 68060 CPU). Entries for Aros, MorphOS or AmigaOS4 will not be accepted. Entries that require Vampire, GFX cards or other specialized hardware will not be accepted.
  • You can only start working on the actual game project after the submission period starts, but you can start planning and creating/gathering assets, tools and other resources before that time.
  • Inline ASM is allowed but keep it to a minimum, and please include a brief comment describing what is going on. The relative amount of non-Blitz code will be a consideration in judging each entry.
  • You and your team are encouraged to make everything from scratch during the jam. If you use any pre-made assets you must list them in the description of the game and you must have the rights to use said assets. Re-using some of your own libraries or other quality-of-life code snippets is allowed.
  • Both solo developers and teams are allowed.
  • Any theme or genre is allowed, but games that are NSFW must have a warning in the description or when the game first loads up.

The final decision on the eligibility of any entry will be made by the jam organisers.

Note: While it is allowed to submit a game that require an expanded Amiga we advise you to consider developing for the stock models. If your game require a lot of extra RAM and/or CPU then chances are few people will be able to play it and this is likely to hurt your ratings.

If you have any questions or concerns about the rules please ask at the Community forums or on the Discord server.

The community rating is done by the game developers and contributors that have submitted a game entry. If a team submit a game make sure that all team members are added as Contributor on the game page, or else they will not be able to rate any games.

The community rankings will be determined based on the criteria listed below:

  • Gameplay - Does it control well and is it fun to play?
  • Graphics - Is the game aesthetically pleasing?
  • Audio - Does the game have nice sfx and music?
  • Originality - Does the game innovate or try something new?
  • Completeness - Is it an unfinished tech-demo, prototype or a complete game?

In addition to the community rating there is a panel of judges who will use their vast expertise and experience to evaluate the submitted entries.

The judges will each pick and rank their 3 favorite games and the game that get the highest rating win the "Judge's pick" category.

After the jam is over an Amiga Blitz Basic Game Jam CD-ROM with all the submitted entries, as well as some bonus content, will be made available online for free as a downloadable .ISO image. A physical copy of the CD-ROM will be possible to purchase for a small fee (production cost + shipping).

The winner of the "Judge's pick" get a boxed release of the game*. Published by Bitmap Soft.

* The game must be an original game where the creator owns all rights with regard to commercial distribution.
